Yellow Roses Everywhere

San Antonio is sporting thousands of yellow roses everywhere in honor of celebrating the Alamo’s 175th Anniversary this weekend.

There was a predawn ceremony Saturday morning honoring the fallen on both sides of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo, which was fought in darkness. It has a very solemn tone, as thirteen candles are lit to remember the 13-day siege.

Through out the day educational activities and interactive demonstrations will give you an idea of what it was like to live through the event. Bagpipers and a Celtaire string band provide period music.

On Saturday evening an oversized wreath of yellow roses will be placed in front of the Alamo to commemorate the historic battle. The ceremony includes military and civic dignitaries, concerts by the Band of the West and the Barry Michael Band and the reading of the Crockett Letter.

At the San Fernando Cathedral City Center there will be an event which features speakers, dancers, music, and performances related to the Alamo and Tejano heritage.

There is always a party in San Antonio for some type of celebration and with Spring coming…so are the fiestas!  Viva San Antonio!

So Is Spring Around The Corner?

If you look around San Antonio there are signs of Spring everywhere.  People are out walking more, gardening, and wishing they were outside on these beautiful warm sunny days and cool nights.  Even the redbud trees are springing forward with their beautiful vibrant fuchsia blooms.

Home buyers are coming out and starting their search and sellers are beginning to list in rapid speed, which is always a sign of warm days ahead.

Getting excited for spring is always inevitable; however around here they say until you see the mesquite trees setting forth their green leaves is Spring truly here.  I’ve been on the look out for them; however have not seen any yet.  This may be a good reason to take in a leisurely drive in our beautiful Hill Country and take on a mesquite tree search.

I heard the Bald Eagle have been seen on the Mississippi River in Wisconsin, which is a sign for them that Spring is right around the corner.  And we know how hard their winter has been.  I’m sure they are rejoicing to that beautiful site.

What signs of Spring have  you heard to look for to let you know Spring has Sprung.

So Many Lessons In “The Kings Speech”

If you haven’t seen “The Kings Speech” go as fast as you can.  This is an excellent film! No wonder it is up for 12 Academy Awards.   You are captured by the history, actors performances, and so many life lessons.

It was so refreshing to see Geoffrey Rush who portrays the unconventional speech therapist Lionel Logue to Colin Firth, the nervous-mannered successor George “Bertie” VI to stand his ground of who he is, the values he stands for and not back down to anyone.  How many out there give into what society or others feel we should be or how we should act or respond?  We all have unique talents to provide to others and do not need the sheepskin on the wall to make a huge impact on people’s lives. I’m not saying education is not important.

Everyone has their own hidden fears which may not be so noticable on the surface which hold us back from being the success’ we were born to be. Fear in which we are not naturally born with; however fears which are instill in us as children.  How blessed one is when a person enters your life, identifies it, and is not afraid to “tell it how it is”; however is willing to also go the extra mile to help you see it, nurture it, and concur it.

Okay, enough said as I do not want to spoil it for your. So…Run, Run as fast as you can and see this movie and engulf yourself with superior acting and so many other rewards.
